MEET THE CANDIDATE
SEAN PATRICK MALONEY
Sean is the first openly gay member of Congress elected from the State of New York and currently represents the Hudson Valley in Washington, where he’s fought the Trump administration’s attacks on our democracy. Sean and his husband, Randy Florke, have three children and currently reside in Cold Spring, NY on their family farm complete with ducks, horses, dogs, sheep, and a goat.
While working as a young attorney in New York City, Sean proudly fought for the rights of tenants and new Americans. He also served as a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton, where he worked to advance and protect the interests of hate crime survivors. Sean was previously a partner at two global law firms and started a high-tech business from scratch. He also served under two Governors of New York, focusing on strengthening statewide education and supporting infrastructure projects.
During his time serving in Congress, Sean has passed dozens of his legislative priorities into law while fighting for veterans, farmers, students, and older Americans. In 2017, he was awarded the Town Hall Project’s “Grassroots MVP” award for his transparency and responsiveness to his constituents.
